Speaker Notes - “No Other Name” or “In Christ Alone”

Acts 4:8-12

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, replied, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a sick man—by what means this man was healed— 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands before you healthy. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.”

The five solas state that Christians are saved :

1 - by Grace alone
2 - through Faith alone
3 - in Christ alone
4 - as revealed by Scripture alone
5 - to the glory of God alone

Two questions :

1 - What were the Religious Leaders doing?
a - silence all Resurrection talk
b - they resorted to intimidation
2 - Why did Peter and John refuse to back down when they met with opposition?
a - Peter connected Jesus’ Name with the Power to Heal
b - The foundation of our faith rests on Jesus
c - they knew no other name matches Jesus’ authority
i - they knew the man had been healed by Jesus, and by no other authority
ii - they knew the Kingdom of God had come with the arrival of Jesus
iii - they knew that the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth had been on that cross
iv - they knew Redemption had been accomplished by Jesus
v - they knew Redemption is accessed through Jesus
