Proverbs 28:13

Speaker Notes - Our inability to admit our faults, our sins

Proverbs 28:13

13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Psalm 32:1-5

Of David. A maskil.

Blessed is the one
    whose transgressions are forgiven,
    whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord does not count against them
and in whose spirit is no deceit.

When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
    your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
    the guilt of my sin.

When we confess our sin and repent, 3 things happen:

1 - I have broken God’s design for my life. I am guilty.

2 - God, you have every right to smite me.

3 - God, you have been merciful, you are merciful.

”The Death of Porn: Men of Integrity Building a World of Nobility” by Ray Ortlund

”Life Together” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer:
- Confession is our breakthrough to experiencing real brotherhood. But sin wants to keep a man by himself, withdrawn and alone. The more isolated a man is, the more destructive his sin becomes. By confession, the light of the Gospel can shine into his dark places. When a man finally surrenders and opens up, his sin starts weakening. The man receiving a brother’s confession starts bearing his sin with him. Now both men are honest sinners in deep brotherhood. A man living in ongoing-confession will never be alone again.
